Jonathan Gerth, Avenu’s vice president of tax and auditing services, was honored in the Birmingham Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 for his outstanding professional accomplishments and community involvement.
For more than a decade, Jonathan has worked as a professional auditor, accountant, and attorney counseling local and state governmental clients across the nation. According to Jonathan, a career as a tax expert was a natural choice. He worked as an administrative hearings officer for local governments in Alabama, as an auditor and tax attorney for the Internal Revenue Service, and as a tax attorney in the private sector.
When asked what professional accomplishment he is most proud of, Jonathan says, “Assisting the Chief Tax Judge of the State of Alabama and a small team of attorneys in organizing the rules and regulations to govern the independent Alabama Tax Tribunal, and actively encouraging nearly all local governments in the state to opt into its jurisdiction.”
The Birmingham Business Journal story also quotes a retired chief tax judge in Alabama who had this to say about Jonathan: “Of the thousands of representatives [the judge] came into contact with over the decades, Gerth stood out as one of the best when it comes to representing his company and the numerous governments represented by Avenu.”
Congratulations Jonathan on this well-deserved honor!
