Avenu is now a partner with International City/County Management Association (ICMA). The General Level partnership reflects Avenu’s ongoing investment in local government and the power of associations like ICMA to share best practices and enhance effective government. ICMA’s national footprint is a match for the national presence of Avenu across the United States.
“We hear from our clients everyday about their financial challenges associated with funding public safety, supporting schools, maintaining parks, trash removal and other services. By helping them figure out revenue strategies, Avenu enable councils and city managers to serve their communities and maintain a high quality of life,” says Avenu CEO Paul Colangelo. “Our partnership with ICMA is part of our commitment to both the city management profession and the idea that when cities have success then Avenu succeeds.”
Avenu’s expertise on local government revenues, particularly sales taxes, has put the firm at the forefront in thought leadership with regard to sales tax reform and its implications for local governments across the county. There is particular interest this year on this subject as the US Supreme Court will rule on the South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. case that could lead to a significant change in sales tax collections for online transactions with out-of-state businesses. Avenu has been a lead voice working with industry and cities to devise methods for efficient implement of the Court’s ruling should the Court rule in favor of South Dakota.
