Germantown Community Library – How John Bogdal Is Bringing A Positive Impact to Children with Chess

Chess has enjoyed a new spike in popularity, in some thanks to hit series like the Queen’s Gambit. However, John Bogdal (Avenu staff member at the Germantown Community Library in TN) understands how chess can help children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, creativity, as well as foresight and planning.

John started a new chess program for children for ages 5-9 and 10+ years. The groups meet monthly and has become a hit both with the kids as well as their parents.

As the son of a schoolteacher, John saw first-hand what a positive impact unique learning activities can have on children and also gives them a way and place to connect with others in a positive way.  Working in the library has given John a unique perspective into citizen services and he plans to pursue a master’s degree in library science later this fall.

Way to go John on finding a creative and impactful way to serve our clients!
